Our students have created over 100 student-led organizations to address real-world issues on local, national and global fronts and to support interests within and outside of medicine.
Ranging from arts and athletics to advocacy and policy, student groups empower our students to:
- Serve the community, including community health clinics, mentoring youth, and working with the unhoused
- Explore medical specialties, including shadowing mentors, interacting with senior faculty, and participating in departmental functions
- Develop leadership skills
- Pursue interests outside of medicine, including dance, martial arts, playing music, gaming and soccer
- Experience meaningful personal and professional growth
Our faculty, deans and alumni take great pride in and enthusiastically encourage these endeavors, and administrative support for student groups distinguishes WashU Medicine from many medical schools.
Making a difference in our community
Beyond student groups and extracurricular activities, our students are committed to making a difference in our community. Local and global partnerships provide invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth while mirroring the health, equity and justice content within our Gateway Curriculum.
