Assistant Professor of Medicine

Kaori Sakurai, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the John Milliken Department of Medicine, Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics, at Washington University School of Medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Sakurai completed her internal medicine primary care track residency at Washington University.

Sakurai was an internist and partner at Bi-State Medical Consultants for over a decade (2003-2014) prior to joining Generation Clinical Partners in post-acute care (2015-2020), where she fostered her interest in transitions of care and polypharmacy, as well as multidisciplinary coordination of care for quality improvement. She joined the faculty at WashU Med in 2020, returning to her primary care roots, with a focus on geriatrics. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She earned an Exceptional Mentor Award from the American Medical Women’s Association in 2021.

Dr. Sakurai prioritizes being an advocate for her patients. She enjoys focusing on individualized patient care and incorporating health promotion, preventive health care and advance care planning in her geriatric primary care practice.
