The Washington University Medical Campus comprises an interdisciplinary community of institutions and individuals dedicated to preparing the next generation of health-care leaders and providing solutions that advance human health locally, nationally, and globally.

Corporate partners on the campus include Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and BJC HealthCare.  Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital are the School of Medicine’s affiliate teaching hospitals, both staffed exclusively by full-time and voluntary School of Medicine faculty physicians.

In addition to its corporate partners, the medical campus is home to the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center, The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College, Shriners Hospital for Children, and Central Institute for the Deaf.  Siteman is one of 56 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, and offers the expertise of 450 Washington University research scientists and physicians.  WashU Med and several of its educational partners have collaborated to form the Center for Interprofessional Practice & Education.

The medical campus generates an annual economic impact of $8 billion for the St. Louis region (fiscal year 2022), and with more than 27,400 employees, the combined medical campus institutions are among the largest employers in the metropolitan area.  The 186-acre Washington University Medical Campus, spread over portions of 18 city blocks, is located along the eastern edge of Forest Park in St. Louis and also borders St. Louis’ Cortex Innovation Community. At the western boundary of Forest Park is the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis.  For more information on the medical campus, see this link or this description of current construction and campus growth.
