M. Laurin Council, MD, MBA, FAAD, FACMS

Professor of Dermatology

M. Laurin Council, MD, MBA, FAAD, FACMS is Director of Dermatologic Surgery and Program Director for the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship. She completed medical school and dermatology residency training here at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and a fellowship in minimally-invasive aesthetic procedures/micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology (MSDO) at St. Louis University. Her clinical and research areas of interest include rare non-melanoma skin cancers, aesthetic injectables, and laser therapy.

She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Dermatologic Society and the American College of Mohs Surgery. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and she is the current President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. A strong believer in patient advocacy, she is a past President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, the Speaker of the Missouri State Medical Association, and an ASDS Association Delegate to the American Medical Association. She serves on the Editorial Board of several dermatology journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology, and Archives of Dermatological Research. She is a past editor in chief of Dialogues in Dermatology, the official podcast of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has authored over 90 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is the editor of 2 textbooks.

In her free time, Dr. Council enjoys Cajun cooking, LSU football, and spending time with her husband and six children.
