Professor Emeritus of Medicine

Lewis Chase, MD, is currently a professor emeritus of internal medicine.  He is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and metabolism.  He participates in the programs of the Division of General Medicine, the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipid Research and the Division of Bone and Mineral Metabolism.  Since Chase joined the faculty in 1970, he has served in many roles including performing basic research on the mechanism of action of parathyroid hormone, chief of the Washington University Medical Service at the John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center,  director of the Mentors in Medicine Program, head of the Clinical Research Center Advisory Committee, and attending physician on the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in-patient units. He is active in the community, serving on the board of a local early childhood education center.
