Helga Komen, MD

Helga Komen, MD, is an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Rijeka School of Medicine in Croatia and completed anesthesiology training at Clinical Hospital Rijeka, Croatia. She joined Washington University School of Medicine in 2014.  Komen is specialized in ear, nose and throat anesthesia and difficult airway management. She is actively involved in research and some of her areas of interest are long acting opioids, low flow anesthesia and standardized difficult airway management. Komen is regularly teaching residents and medical students, through lecturing, courses and clinical work.  She has published several papers in peer reviewed journals, as well as book chapters. Outside of work, she enjoys art and architecture, and likes to go to the movie theater.
