Varun Puri, MD, MSCI

Professor of Surgery (Cardiothoracic Surgery)

Varun Puri, MD, MSCI, is an associate professor of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine.  He earned his medical degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He completed his residency in general surgery at Creighton University in 2007, and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Washington University in 2009.  Puri earned a master’s of science in clinical investigation at Washington University in 2014.  He is currently the associate program director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program.

Puri’s areas of clinical interest include robotic, minimally invasive, laparoscopic and traditional surgery in lung cancer, lung transplantation, esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux, Barrett’s esophagus and hiatal hernia.

His areas of research interest include:  outcomes in lung cancer and lung transplantation and cost effectiveness in surgical procedures.
