Professor Emeritus of Anesthesiology

Thomas E. Cox, MD is a professor emeritus of anesthesiology at Washington University. He is the former Rudolph L. and Mary Frances Endowed Chair of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Professor at the School of Medicine, having served as the residency program director and vice-chairman for education for the Department of Anesthesiology as well as the anesthesiologist-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He completed his residency training at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital where he remained on faculty until his retirement.

Cox continues to be involved in medical education as a lecturer and career advisor. In addition, he contributes to global health endeavors and serves as a consultant to non-profit organizations. His interests include cross country skiing, fly fishing, and high altitude hiking. He is married with three grown daughters.
