Thomas E. Cox, MD
Dr. Thomas E. Cox is currently a professor and vice-chairman of education for the Department of Anesthesiology at the Washington University School of Medicine and specializes in pediatric anesthesiology. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed an anesthesiology residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland Oregon prior to completing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Prior to becoming vice-chairman of education, Dr. Cox was the program director for the anesthesiology residency program.
In his role as vice-chairman, Dr. Cox promotes and guides the education missions for the Department of Anesthesiology including medical student education, anesthesiology residency training, as well as subspecialty training in the Department’s nine fellowship programs. In recent years, he has focused particular attention on the development innovative training programs and curriculums including the Academic Scholars Advancement Program (ASAP) as well as the development of international teaching sites for the Department and Institution. He holds leadership positions in multiple national organizations and is an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.
