Joseph P. Gaut, MD, PhD
Dr. Joseph P. Gaut is an assistant professor of pathology and immunology who specializes in renal pathology. Dr. Gaut earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1996 and his medical and doctoral degrees in 2004, all from Washington University. He completed an anatomic pathology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before returning to St. Louis for an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and surgical pathology fellowship at Washington University.
His research focuses on acute kidney injury and the development of novel biomarkers to specifically and sensitively detect kidney injury in critically ill patients. Other research interests include the pathophysiology of acute kidney injury and various types of glomerular disease.
