Joan Noelker, MD, MACM

Joan Noelker, MD, MACM is currently an assistant professor and Director of Undergraduate Education for Emergency Medicine at Washington University.  She earned a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and a masters of medical education from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.  She completed her residency training, including a chief resident year, as well as a medical education fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.  She served as Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Washington University for four years before transitioning to focus undergraduate medical education work.  Noelker works clinically in the emergency departments at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, and her remaining time is divided between administrative work with curriculum development, teaching residents and medical students, and educational research.  She has won numerous local and national teaching awards and has served as a national speaker at several emergency medicine conferences. Her other academic interests include simulation in medical education, transitions within medical education, and managing struggling learners.
