Nichole Zehnder, MD

Associate Dean for Educational Strategy; Associate Professor of Medicine

Nichole Zehnder, MD, is an experienced clinician educator, coach, and facilitator who is committed to training the next generation of leaders in biomedicine and creating environments where learning occurs deliberately and experientially. She joined Washington University School of Medicine in 2020 as the Associate Dean for Educational Strategy at and also serves as the Director of the Gateway Coaching Program. From 2009-2020, Dr. Zehnder served in multiple educational leadership roles across the educational spectrum in curriculum, admissions, and student affairs. Her longstanding facilitation work has focused on personal and group development and strategic planning.

Nationally, she is an active facilitator for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Leadership Skills Training Program for chief residents. She currently serves as a member of the AAMC AMCAS Advisory Board. Dr. Zehnder’s areas of interest include coaching, remediation, competency-based admissions, and the creation of a diverse health professions workforce.

Dr. Zehnder attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she graduated with a Distinction in Community Service then she completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Her personal interests include DIY home repairs, reading, and spending time with her husband and daughters.
